Experience ‘The Little Mermaid’ magic with San Antonio’s future dance stars

The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio will give a fresh take on The Little Mermaid at the Majestic Theatre with nearly 200 young performers.

SAN ANTONIO — Dive under the sea with Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder and all the characters of Disney’s beloved The Little Mermaid right here in San Antonio.

The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio will offer a fresh take of the classic tale on May 16 and 17 at the Majestic Theatre. The story of Ariel’s fateful meeting with Prince Eric and her quest to become human with the help of her good friends will come to life on stage with dancers, singers, actors and even acrobats. The 90-minute production will involve more than 200 performers, including rising star ballet and contemporary dancers.

The production also includes a mix of classical and contemporary choreography, as well as aerial acrobats and special effects combining digital imagery, stage props and even a real pool.

Some of the performers include professional dancers Nurlan Kinerbayev, a visiting ballet master and principal artist from CBSA’s associated school, the Dance Center of San Antonio. Joining him on stage is Aliaksandra Krukava, also a ballet master with the Dance Center, whose international career includes principal roles at the Russian National Ballet. They will perform the Friday night show and Saturday matinee. The Saturday evening performance will include graduating senior Sophia Luene, an up-and-coming star from North East School of the Arts and Dance Center of San Antonio.

The show will also feature a pre-show market, face-painting and photos will cast members ahead of each performance. All proceeds go towards the Children’s Ballet of San Antonio’s nonprofit mission of providing dance education and opportunities to thousands of students, as well as scholarships for students in financial need.
