Family identifies victim in triple-shooting on south side as 2 others fight for their lives

“It is a profound sorrow; only God knows what truly happened. May His glory be revealed. I never expected this from him—but may God help us,” the victim’s aunt said.

SAN ANTONIO — One man was killed and two others were critically injured in a triple shooting Sunday night on the city’s south side, according to police.

Officers said the shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. after two groups began arguing on Southeast Military Drive. The dispute escalated, police said, and the suspects pursued the victims to the parking lot of a Walgreens at Southeast Military Drive and South Flores Street, where gunfire erupted.

“All three of the complainants inside of the vehicle were struck,” Officer Lizzandra Trevino said.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as shots rang out.

Abril Velasquez, whose family was selling toys nearby, said they quickly took cover. “I just heard a bunch of shootings, like people were screaming, and my family, we just put everything away and tried to get down,” she said.

Police said the three victims attempted to drive themselves to a hospital following the shooting. Along the way, their vehicle was involved in multiple minor crashes.

Genevieve Garcia, who was driving on Southeast Military Drive at the time, said she saw the victims’ truck swerving in her rearview mirror and narrowly avoided being hit.

“I kept looking, waiting for something bad to happen,” Garcia said. “When we got to the Roosevelt light, we saw the white truck coming up pretty fast. I swerved to the left, and as soon as I swerved, he passed us and hit two vehicles.”

Garcia said she later heard a loud crash as the truck continued down the road. “It was very loud. My 13-year-old freaked out,” she said.

Police said the victims eventually crashed into an auto repair shop.

Julian Ramirez, who was nearby, said he saw officers pull one victim from the vehicle. “I witnessed them going in and pulling one body out, which was the one that was already deceased,” he said.

Ramirez said he tried to help but was told to stay back as officers worked to secure the scene. Authorities moved the victims away from the vehicle amid concerns the building could catch fire, because of a gas leak he said.

Police said one man died at the scene. Family members identified him as 29-year-old Victor Rebollar Zamorano.

A relative, who declined to be identified due to safety concerns, said the family is devastated. “It is a profound sorrow; only God knows what truly happened,” the relative said.

The two other victims, ages 17 and 23, were taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

Authorities have not released information about the suspects or their vehicle. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact police.
