A couple and their three children are displaced after an early morning fire destroyed their southwest San Antonio home.
SAN ANTONIO — A family is now without a home after an early morning fire in southwest San Antonio.
Crews responded around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to the 8500 block of Sweet Maiden Drive near Old Pearsall Road, where 16 units were dispatched to battle the blaze.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire, but the home was destroyed.
The couple who lived there say the fire started accidentally from a candle near a window that caught a curtain on fire. The flames quickly spread to the roof and across the home, leaving little time to stop it.
The husband tried to put out the fire, but the flames grew too quickly, forcing the couple to call for help.
The family, who has lived in the home for three years and has three children, is now displaced. They say they were renting the property and will have to start over.
Fire officials say they are working to connect the family with the Red Cross for temporary housing. The couple says they are also leaning on family and community support as they begin to rebuild.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
This is a developing story.
