Family of West Texas woman who lost her life in Kerrville flooding, files lawsuit

The release says the family wants answers, accountability, and to know why the resort she was staying at had no effective system for extreme weather and flooding.

AUSTIN, Texas — A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of the family of 22-year-old Ector County juvenile probation officer, Jayda Floyd, who lost her life in the July 4 Central Texas flooding disaster, according to a Glasheen, Valles, Inderman, LLP Injury Lawyers news release.

This is believed to be the first lawsuit filed in response to the flooding disaster, according to the law firm.

The lawsuit is being filed against The Davis Companies, Inc., DIV HTR Kerrville, LLC, Blue Water Development, LLC, and Ilana Callahan. Callahan was the general manager of HTR TX Hill Country Resort at the time of the floods, according to the lawsuit. The release states that Floyd lost her life as floodwaters swept through the resort, a luxury RV park and campground on the Guadalupe River in Kerrville, Texas. She was staying there with her fiancé, Bailey Martin, an Odessa police officer who also lost his life in the flooding.

Attorney Kevin Glasheen said, “The family wants answers and accountability. They want to know why the resort had no effective system to monitor extreme weather and flooding, no adequate warning for guests like Jayda, and no timely evacuation procedures.”

“Businesses operating campgrounds along the river have known about its flooding history for decades,” said Jon Clark, attorney for the family. “We will investigate what steps—if any—were taken to monitor conditions and warn guests of the danger they were in.”
