Jose Alfredo Nino Lopez is facing three charges including manslaughter.
SAN ANTONIO — An arrest was made in connection to a crash that took a mother’s life on the southside.
Jose Alfredo Nino Lopez is facing three charges including manslaughter.
Lopez is accused of speeding when he slammed into Crystal Mendoza Monday morning just outside the El Carmen Catholic Church – Losoya.
Crystal’s daughter and nephew who were in the car survived and were just released from the hospital today. You can support them by donating to a GoFundMe here.
Crystal’s sister Veronica Peres told KENS 5 the family is happy an arrest was made and the driver can be held accountable but she says this arrest will not bring her sister back.
“It’s the same route we take every single day,” Peres said.
On Monday just after 6:00 a.m., a car would collide with Crystal Mendoza’s taking her life leaving Peres without a sister.
Peres’ son Chris was in the back seat of Crystal’s car when the accident happened. Now he’s without an aunt. Her niece Lucia in the passenger seat will have to move on without her mom.
“We were planning my nieces Quinceañera the day before and we were calling sponsors.”
An arrest affidavit accuses Jose Alfredo Nino Lopez of traveling 30 miles above the legal speed limit at 65 miles an hour when he hit Crystal’s car.
Lopez faces charges including manslaughter, aggravated assault and injury to a child.
He also suffered injuries in the crash and is recovering in the hospital.
“My sister would drop anything and everything to help us out regardless of what it was.”
Veronica remembers her sister as a protector.
“I’m going to miss those calls of where you at even though she knows where I am.”
Now she needs one thing: for people to donate to their GoFundMe. Every cent will go to the kids to help them now and in the future as they live a life without a mother and an aunt.
“Who knows what they saw…none of us were there…to know what they could need.”
