Family to hold vigil tonight for 6-year-old fatally struck on the west side

A truck accidentally hit and killed a six-year-old boy playing on a toy car on the west side.

SAN ANTONIO — The family of the six-year-old hit and killed by a driver on the West side Tuesday night plans to hold a vigil in his memory.

Police say the little boy was playing on a toy car that rolled into the street on Amires Place when he was hit around five that night.

The driver told authorities he didn’t see the victim and that he wasn’t driving too fast.

That truck was captured on a neighbor’s doorbell camera. It can be seen reversing while children are heard screaming and seen running to another home.

A neighbor told KENS 5 it was her boyfriend who ran out and immediately performed CPR on the six-year-old. Police say the driver of the truck also stopped to render aid.

Attempts to save him wouldn’t work. Police say he died shortly after getting to the hospital.

There are no criminal charges in this case.

Police and neighbors KENS 5 spoke with corroborated the man’s story, saying he wasn’t driving too fast.
