Fans honor Selena Quintanilla-Pérez 31 years after her death

Events across South Texas are celebrating the life and legacy of Selena 31 years after her death.

SAN ANTONIO — Tuesday marks 31 years since the death of Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, whose music and influence continue to resonate with fans around the world.

Selena was shot and killed in Corpus Christi by her former fan club president, Yolanda Saldívar. Her legacy, however, has endured for generations.

KENS 5 is honoring Selena with a 45-minute special hosted by Sarah Forgany, now available to stream on the KENS 5 Plus app.

Fans also have several opportunities to celebrate her life this week.

In Del Rio, the “Cumbia de la Flor Fest” will take place Friday, along with a month-long exhibit titled “Con Tanto Amor.”

Selena’s costume designer, Martin Gomez, is set to host a Q&A Friday evening, sharing insight into some of her most iconic looks.

In San Antonio, a Selena tribute night is planned at Brass Monkey on North St. Mary’s on Thursday, April 9, featuring music, dancing and giveaways for attendees.

More than three decades later, Selena’s impact on Tejano music and culture remains as strong as ever.
