Fast-moving apartment fire spreads to second building due to wind, SAFD say

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire coming from the roof of one of the buildings. They immediately called for support, and a second alarm went off.

SAN ANTONIO — A fast-moving fire forced folks out into the cold last night as flames swept through their northwest-side apartment complex, fueled by strong winds.

Crews were dispatched around 11 p.m. Saturday to the 1400 block of Gardina Street near Vance Jackson Road for reports of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire coming from the roof of one of the buildings. They immediately called for support, and a second alarm went off.

Firefighters evacuated everyone from all of the surrounding units. Officials say that due to the winds and fire conditions, the crews went into defensive operations. The fire spread from the building where it started to the building next it.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters say that multiple apartments were impacted by the fire.

Management was notified and will be helping the residents displaced by the fire.

This is a developing story.
