
Heavy storms in South Texas caused Leon Creek to rise sharply, leading to over 40 road closures in Bexar County.
SAN ANTONIO — Leon Creek at Loop 410 near Leon Valley rose sharply Thursday morning after heavy rain hit the San Antonio area overnight.
Major storms, carrying thunder and lightning, swept through South Texas over several hours, dumping rain on already saturated ground from multiple days of rain storms. The rains caused more than 40 roads to be closed in Bexar County.
The National Weather Service posted on its Twitter/X page that the creek rose sharply 13 feet this morning and has over 41,000 cubic feet of water per second flowing through it.
Later, the River Forecast Center said it has reached flood stage and rose a total of more than 20 feet. It is expected to crest some time between noon and 2 p.m.
That creek is known to be a trouble spot when heavy rains hit, rising quickly and creating dangerous conditions for drivers. Officials say several cars got stuck in this area overnight and early Thursday morning.
