GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — A man is behind bars after deputies say he violently assaulted and strangled his 12-year-old child during a disturbance earlier this month.

According to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 10 p.m. on Jan. 10 to a home on Archers Way for a reported physical disturbance involving a juvenile.

Investigators say the child’s father struck the boy multiple times in the face, leaving visible injuries, and also strangled him to the point that his breathing was restricted.

“This was a violent and inexcusable act against a child,” Sheriff Joshua Ray said in a statement. “Anyone who harms a child will be held fully accountable. We will not tolerate child abuse in this county, and we will aggressively pursue justice for victims.”

The suspect was arrested and charged with injury to a child, continuous violence against the family, and assault by impeding breath or circulation.

The sheriff’s office says it remains committed to protecting children and holding abusers accountable.
