Father who allegedly shot son identified; Girlfriend facing tampering with evidence charges

SAPD confirmed that the father is now in custody and his girlfriend is facing a tampering with evidence charge for her involvement in the crime.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department has confirmed that a father has been arrested after allegedly calling 911 saying he found his son with gunshot wounds in a west-side driveway.

Early Tuesday morning, SAPD responded to the 151 block of Prosperity Drive after receiving reports of a shooting around 10 a.m.

Ronald Harry Ross, 62, told officers that he found his 40-year-old son in the driveway with at least three gunshot wounds.

The son was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and police said neither he or his parents were cooperating with authorities at the scene.

By 11:30 a.m. police said the victim told investigators his father pulled the trigger.

After further investigation, authorities said after shots were fired, the father handed the gun to his girlfriend, Savannah Renee Settles.

The father faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and the girlfriend is facing a tampering with evidence charge for hiding the gun.

Jerry Castillo, who lives in the neighborhood, is puzzled by the whole ordeal since he knows the man who allegedly shot his son.

“I’m surprised,” Castillo said. “I’ve known him for years, so I don’t understand why it happened.”
