FBI finds remains of U.K. man in Kingsland more than 2 years after he was reported missing

Agents announced Friday they found 32-year-old Alex Hodgson Doughty on Feb. 4 in a “wooded area on private land” in Kingsland, Georgia.

KINGSLAND, Ga. — The remains of a missing U.K. man were found earlier this month in Georgia, the FBI announced Friday.

Alex Hodgson Doughty, 32, was reported missing in September 2022. His remains were found in a wooded area on private land near Kingsland, Georgia on Feb. 4, the agency said.

The FBI said Doughty was visiting North Florida in 2022 when his mother contacted local police, saying she couldn’t reach him and that she was concerned for his well-being.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner confirmed Doughty’s identity. Authorities do not expect criminal charges, an FBI release said.

“While we had hoped to bring Mr. Doughty’s family better news, we are thankful to be able to provide them with some closure,” Special Agent in Charge Kristin Rehler said in the press release. “This discovery is the direct result of our partnerships and special agents from FBI Jacksonville’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST), who were relentless in their efforts to narrow down potential search locations.”

A missing poster about Doughty on social media said he traveled around 2 p.m. on Sept. 11 2022 by Uber from Bay Street Bar & Grill in Jacksonville to Callahan, Fernandina Beach and Kingsland, ending at Carquest Kingsland, located at 925 E. King Ave.

The poster said there were unconfirmed sightings of him that night. His phone was last online that evening of Sept. 11, 2022, at 6.52 p.m., the poster said.

Volunteer search teams assisted in six additional searches. This case was investigated by the FBI Jacksonville Division, State Attorney’s Office for the Fourth Judicial Circuit, Thames Valley (U.K.) Police Department, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Kingsland Police Department.
