
Texans whose homes sustained damage and who aren’t insured now have a few more weeks to apply for federal disaster assistance.
TEXAS, USA — FEMA has extended the deadline for Central Texas families affected by the devastating July flooding to apply for federal disaster assistance.
Homeowners and renters whose homes sustained damage and aren’t insured now have until Sunday, Sept. 28 to apply, according to the agency. .
Several counties, including Kerr, where more than 100 people from all across the state died when the Guadalupe River rose to historic levels the morning of July Fourth, were designated for assistance from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration in the wake of the natural disaster. Those counties included in the disaster declaration include:
- Burnet
- Guadalupe
- Kerr
- Kimble
- McCulloch
- Menard
- San Saba
- Tom Green
- Travis
- Williamson
FEMA covers housing, property, vehicles, medical costs and other needs. The federal agency works closely with the Small Business Administration, which provides loans to homeowners, renters, nonprofit organizations and businesses of all sizes.
Flood survivors can apply for FEMA assistance online at the website here, through the FEMA mobile app or by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. Phone lines are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT daily.
