Female inmate dies after ‘medical emergency’; investigation underway, BCSO says

Pearson was in jail for the following charge: Assault on Hospital Staff and Harassment of Public Servant.

SAN ANTONIO — A female inmate was found unresponsive in the Bexar County jail and later died at a hospital this weekend, according to the sheriff’s office. 

Officials said Casandra Monette Pearson, 29, was found breathing but unresponsive in her cell Sunday. She appeared to be suffering from a medical emergency, so the onsite University Health personnel was called and attempted life-saving measures. San Antonio Fire and EMS also responded. 

According to BCSO, Pearson was taken to a local hospital where her health continued to decline and was pronounced dead around 6:30 p.m.

Officials said the incident appears to have stemmed from a medical episode and all policies and procedures were reportedly followed. 

The Castle Hill Police Department is handling the death investigation and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards has been notified of the death. BCSO Internal Affairs Unit is conducting a separate but concurrent administrative investigation, which is standard procedure. 

According to BCSO, Pearson was in jail for the following charge: Assault on Hospital Staff and Harassment of Public Servant.
