Female passenger shot, driver robbed after man receives ride to West Side apartment complex, SAPD says

SAN ANTONIO – A female passenger was shot and a driver was robbed after they gave a man a ride to a West Side apartment complex late Tuesday night, according to San Antonio police.

Officers were called around 11 p.m. to the 4400 block of West Commerce Street, not far from Our Lady of the Lake University and Elmendorf Lake Park after receiving word of a shooting.

According to police, a man had gotten a ride with two other people to an apartment complex but when he arrived at his destination, he pulled out a gun and demanded money from the driver. That’s when, police say, the pair argued and the man fired two shots at the female passenger, striking her in the shoulder. The suspect fled with a small amount of cash and has not been found.

Police say the driver went to a nearby fast-food restaurant on West Commerce Street where he called for help. The woman was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, where she is currently listed in critical condition.

SAPD has not given a description of the suspect.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
