Fiesta de los Reyes kicks off Friday at Historic Market Square with music, food, and dancing. New security measures and entry fees start later this weekend.
SAN ANTONIO — One of Fiesta’s largest celebrations is underway at Historic Market Square, launching several days of music, food and dancing, along with some new changes for attendees.
The El Rey Feo Consejo Educational Foundation hosts Fiesta de los Reyes with multiple live bands and an appearance by the Spurs Coyote.
Market Square traditionally draws large crowds, especially in the evening hours. The event features live music across the grounds, dancing, food vendors and drink booths throughout the weeklong celebration.
Organizers are also offering themed promotions, including Military Monday, where attendees can show a valid military ID for food and drink discounts. Take Me Back Tuesday will spotlight music spanning from the 1980s to today’s popular hits.
While Fiesta de los Reyes has long been a free community tradition, new entry fees have now taken effect.
Friday and Saturday are the only days guests can attend for free all day. Beginning Sunday, a $5 admission fee will be charged after 1 p.m. for anyone 13 years and older. From Monday through Thursday, admission will remain free until 6 p.m.
City Council approved the fee change last week to help offset security costs following two shootings at the event in recent years.
Additional security measures are also being implemented this year, including fencing, metal detectors and a clear bag policy.
Fiesta de los Reyes begins at noon Friday and runs through next Sunday at Historic Market Square.
