Final beam set for new Alamo Visitor Center and Museum in milestone ceremony

Leaders will gather March 25 to celebrate a major construction milestone for the future Alamo Visitor Center and Museum.

SAN ANTONIO — A major milestone is coming for one of San Antonio’s most historic projects.

Leaders and community members will gather at The Alamo on Wednesday, March 25 for a topping out ceremony marking progress on the future Alamo Visitor Center and Museum.

The event begins at 1 p.m., with guests invited to sign the final beam starting at 12:30 p.m. before it is lifted into place atop the structure.

The new center is being built using the historic Crockett and Woolworth buildings, located just across from the Alamo Church, as part of an adaptive reuse project.

Once complete, the 160,000-square-foot museum will tell the full 300-year story of the Alamo, from its beginnings as a Spanish mission to its role as a battlefield and cultural landmark.

The project is part of the larger $550 million Alamo Plan, aimed at restoring and preserving the historic site.

Officials say the Visitor Center and Museum is expected to open in spring 2028.

State and local leaders, including Dr. Dawn Buckingham and Hope Andrade, are expected to speak during the ceremony, highlighting the significance of the project for Texas history.
