The interchange is now five levels high and is the major highlight of the Loop 1604 project.
SAN ANTONIO — The final flyover ramp at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange is now open, as a major part of the ongoing Loop 1604 project winds down.
The ramp connecting westbound Loop 1604 to westbound I-10 will open Thursday, the Texas Department of Transportation says. The flyover is the eighth and final ramp to open. Drivers can access the ramp on Loop 1604 just past Lockhill Selma Road and enter I-10 just past La Cantera Boulevard.
This opening comes after the first ramp at the location opened in Dec. 2024, connecting Loop 1604 eastbound to I-10 westbound. The second through seventh ramps opened in 2025.
Work will continue at the intersection to construct the lower level infrastructure and repair the frontage roads. The intersection is about 70 percent complete.
The project has caused quite a few headaches for drivers in the Rim, La Cantera and Six Flags areas, causing traffic closures and delays as crews worked on the flyovers.
This phase is just one of six segments TxDOT has been working on across San Antonio for the past few years as part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project–a yearslong, $1.4 billion project designed to gown a north-side stretch of the major corridor from four lanes to 10 lanes across, including the addition of an HOV lane in both directions.
TxDOT officials say that, once completed, it’s expected to decrease travel times by as much as 80 minutes. A five-level interchange at I-10 and Loop 1604 is the major headline of the project.
