The Super Sudz Haunted Car Wash will halt its spooky operations after entertaining thrill-seekers this Halloween.
SAN ANTONIO — This Halloween season, we’ve taken you through haunted houses, a haunted hospital — and now, a haunted car wash.
For the past four years, the Super Sudz Car Wash on Bandera Road has turned suds into screams, transforming its tunnels into a “soapy house of horrors.” But this Halloween marks the end of the road for the fright-filled wash — at least for now.
A Wash Full of Whispers and Wails
On a gloomy, rainy day, a car wash might be the last place you’d expect to find excitement — unless, of course, the children of the night are calling.
From behind dripping curtains of soap and spinning brushes, monsters lurk. Ghostly brides pop out of coffins, chainsaws roar, and costumed creatures send shivers down the spines of thrill-seeking drivers waiting in line.
“It’s gotten bigger every year,” said owner Derrick White. “We’ve added more actors, more animatronics, more props, more scares. We’ve had a lot of fun doing it.”
But the fun comes at a cost — time, energy, and, apparently, finding enough good monsters.
Why the Scares Are Slowing Down
White says that after years of late nights and months of preparation, the Super Sudz Haunted Car Wash will be taking a break.
“Never say never,” he said with a grin, “but we’re definitely not doing it next year.”
Creating the haunted wash takes hundreds of hours, and assembling a cast of reliable ghouls isn’t as easy as it sounds.
Monsters at Work
Some of the actors have been part of the annual haunt for years. For them, it’s just as fun to scare as it is to be scared.
“It’s super fun to scare kids,” said one performer known as Goth Ghoul. “They start freaking out — it’s great!”
Frights and Fun for Everyone
We tagged along with Stephanie and Shannon, two brave souls ready for some “shivers and a shine.”
“Is Maleficent gonna tell us to pay?” Shannon laughed nervously.
Yes — it’s $35 for the wash and the werewolves, but don’t worry, they won’t skin you alive. And you still get an air freshener on the way out.
Even inside the car wash, you’re not safe. Between the brushes and rinsers, familiar faces like Pennywise make sure your heart races faster than your windshield wipers.
“It’s Pennywise! It’s Pennywise! Right there!” one child shouted, laughing through the screams.
One Last Wash Before Midnight
When it’s all said and done, it’s good, clean fun — literally. And though the ghouls may be taking a break, horror fans know monsters never truly die… they just come back scarier.
If you didn’t make it out yet, don’t despair — you have one last chance.
The Super Sudz Haunted Car Wash at 6780 Bandera Rd. will be open Halloween Night from 6 to 10 p.m.
So roll up your windows, lock your doors, and get ready for one final fright-filled rinse.
