Firefighters knocked down an early-morning fire at an abandoned hoarder house on the after blocked doorways slowed crews, with no injuries reported.

SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters battled heavy flames at an abandoned home on the city’s west side early Wednesday morning, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Crews were called around 1:24 a.m. to a fire in the 7700 block of Westrock Drive, where a battalion chief said firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing from the backside of an abandoned hoarder house.

Officials said burglar bars and blocked doorways made it difficult for firefighters to access the home, slowing down their efforts. The fire burned down much of the backside of the structure before crews were able to bring it under control.

No injuries were reported.

Fire investigators were called to the scene to determine what caused the fire. The investigation remains ongoing.
