Fire damages Good News Burgers in San Antonio, closes for repairs

Good News Burgers in San Antonio faces a temporary closure due to an early-morning fire causing significant smoke and heat damage.

SAN ANTONIO — A restaurant on the west side of San Antonio will be closed for several days following an early-morning fire.

Fire crews were called to Good News Burgers, located in the 900 block of SW 36th Street, around 3:18 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters arrived to find an active fire inside the restaurant. Investigators say the fire started in a vent fan above an ice machine, which also caught fire.

Crews were able to knock down the flames quickly, but the business sustained heavy smoke and heat damage. Officials say the structural damage was limited.

As a precaution, a health inspector was called to the scene, and the restaurant will remain closed for several days while cleanup and repairs are made.

No injuries were reported.

This is a developing story.
