SAN ANTONIO — A vacant home on the city’s south side was destroyed Monday night after a fire broke out, according to the Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office.
Fire crews responded around 9:55 p.m. to the 200 block of Benita Street, where they found a single-story home fully involved in flames. Firefighters quickly knocked down the main body of the fire and spent additional time putting out hot spots.
Officials said power lines were down along the side of the home, adding to the hazards for responding crews. No injuries were reported.
The house, which neighbors told investigators had been vacant for more than a year, was considered a total loss. Residents in the area reported previous homeless activity at the property and said the home was not secured.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, authorities said.
The investigation is ongoing.
