Firefighters battle fire at vacant home on west side

SAFD was called to the scene just after 5 a.m. Monday.

San Antonio firefighters battled a blaze at a vacant home on the west side of town early Monday.

It happened around 5 a.m. in the 2200 block of El Paso Street near Guadalupe Street.

Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the attic of the home. First responders say the home is vacant.

The first home was reduced to rubble from the quick-moving fire, which then spread to another home that is also a total loss, according to the battalion chief. The two occupants of the second home were able to escape with out injuries. A third structure suffered some damage as well.

No word on what may have caused the fire to ignite, but it’s been reported that unhoused people often go in and out of there often and are known to have started fires in the past.

No estimate on the amount of damages was provided.

This is a developing story.
