SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters battled a fire with heavy smoke at an apartment complex northwest of downtown Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported just before 6 a.m. in the 1100 block of Menchaca Street near Culebra Road.
It’s a 2-story complex and firefighters had some difficulty getting into the units that showed flames and smoke rolling out of the windows when they arrived at the scene. The windows had security bars on them, which proved challenging.
Officials say the fire was located in a single unit and that resident was able to get out safely. Everyone else in the complex was also able to evacuate safely.
No injuries were reported.
The first floor unit where the fire was located is completely gutted, according to officials. The second floor suffered extensive smoke damage.
This is a developing story.
