Firefighters find body of adult man while battling San Antonio blaze

The abandoned home is known to have squatters in it on a regular basis, according to officials.

SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters found a body of an adult male while battling a blaze at a home that is known to have squatters there regularly, officials say.

The San Antonio Fire Department was dispatched to the 500 block of North Colorado around 11:15 p.m. Thursday for reports of a fire.

When firefighters arrived at the home, they found heavy flames showing in what was supposed to be an abandoned home. However, witnesses told us that homeless people had been seen running inside the house as it went up in flames.

Officials say the home is known to have squatters staying there regularly. Firefighters did a primary search and found the body of an adult male. His identity has not been released.

Firefighters knocked down the fire but say the place is a total loss and a dangerous structure.

The fire chief is calling for the city to knock down what is left of the building, if possible. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

This is a developing story.
