AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Fire Department (AFD) crews performed an unusual rescue Friday morning.
An AFD spokesperson said a bystander called in to report that a man might need help getting out of a sewer drain. The spokesperson said the man had apparently been exploring a drainage tunnel when he became wedged into a narrow opening in the 2000 block of the West Ben White Boulevard westbound service road.
AFD crews had to remove part of the concrete curb to free the man. Residents were asked to avoid the area while crews worked to perform the rescue.
By 10:18 a.m., the man had been rescued from the drain and AFD crews had begun working to make the sidewalk safe again and clear the scene.
