Firework-related incidents up 31% in Bexar County compared to past New Year’s Celebrations, fire officials say

Bexar County fire officials were much busier this year when it came to the amount of firework-related incidents they responded to this New Year’s.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office has released its official recap of firework related incidents responded to during this New Year’s.

From Dec. 28, 2025 to the early hours of Jan. 1, 2026, officials responded to 42 firework related incidents in unincorporated Bexar County.

This responses included eight structure fires with a total estimated loss of property damages around $475,000, according to the fire marshal’s report.

During that same time period, the Bexar County Public Safety Communications Center reportedly answered 2,062 emergency/ 911 related calls and 3,441 calls from their non-emergency line. Those calls resulted in 113 documented firework-related incidents.

Of the reported fires:

42 total fires were related to fireworks

13 were grass/brush related fires

8 structure fires

9 trash bin fires

3 vehicle fires

“There was a significant increase in fireworks related incidents, up from 32 last year, much of this can be attributed to the persistent dry conditions and the increased breeze throughout the night,” the Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office said.
