First responders and others will climb the steps at the Alamodome in annual 9/11 Memorial Climb

It’s not just a climb, it’s a local tribute to the 344 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

SAN ANTONIO — It’s not just a climb, it’s an annual local tribute to the 344 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The San Antonio 110 9/11 memorial climb is usually held at the Tower of Americas, but this year, it’s happening at the Alamodome, as the Tower undergoes renovations.

“There is a reason it is not a 5K, a bike ride, or any other type of “sporting” event,” says the 9/11 Memorial Climb.

The climb is to pay tribute to the climb that 343 fallen firefighter, 70 law enforcement officers and 9 EMS personnel made at the World Trade Centers, and lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.  Participants honor of their sacrifice by climbing.

“We will climb these stairs twice to reach (and actually exceed) the 110 floors of the World Trade Center to pay tribute to each,” says the 9/11 Memorial Climb.  “We will complete these climbs for them and their accountability tag will be placed on an accountability board when finished. There are many other symbolic moments and events represented in this event as well to pay respect and honor the lost lives of our brothers of 9/11.”

This year , more than 100 different agencies are participating, including over 500 first responders, and hundreds of additional military and civilians, and at least one search and rescue K-9.

Annual pint glasses and other past merchandise will be available at their “Brotherhood Brew Bash”, which is held immediately following the climb at Smoke Skybar.

SA110 has also donated over $100,000 to various organizations and causes assisting our first responders.
