Jordan Sands and William Kelly-Jones were blown away by the support they got from their neighbors after having their first child.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Neighbors in the Champions area rallied around a couple of new parents when they needed it most.
Jordan Sands and William Kelly-Jones were initially told they wouldn’t be able to have kids. But then, a big, little surprise came their way.
“Osley Kelly-Jones was born on Nov. 12, 2023,” Sands said.
Sands, a first-time mother, said giving birth wasn’t easy.
“It was an emergency C-section. We’d be there for a few days,” Sands said.
They’re from out of state, living in a new city with no family while welcoming their first-born child.
“I felt really vulnerable and kind of scared,” Sands said.
When the couple finally got home, they were showered with love and support. Their neighbors found out and wanted to welcome the new baby. For the next month, neighbor after neighbor showed up to drop off food for them. The community organized a Meal Train for the new parents, and their doorbell camera captured it all.
“This is the epitome of what Southern hospitality means,” Kelly-Jones said.
The neighborly love shown to them made the holidays with a newborn easier.
“It makes us feel like we actually do have family,” Sands said.
“There’s nowhere else we can picture ourselves wanting to be raising him,” Kelly-Jones said.
Sands made the video to share on her Facebook as a reminder of the village that helped her and her husband welcome their newest member.
“I hope to share that with him one day, you know, and be like, these are all the people that cared about you and wanted to make sure that your mom and dad were taken care of and so that you could be taken care of,” Sands said.
They found comfort in a new town with a new baby knowing that little Osley would grow up in a loving home surrounded by strangers who have become a big family.
“When there is an emergency, you call your brother, you call your mother, whatever, but I can call my neighbor,” Sands said.
