Five Carnival Breeze sailings out of Galveston canceled

Carnival has canceled five Carnival Breeze cruises scheduled to sail from Galveston in 2027 due to planned maintenance, affecting thousands of travelers.

GALVESTON, Texas — Carnival Cruise Line has canceled five upcoming Carnival Breeze sailings from Galveston due to planned maintenance.

“As we manage a busy dry dock schedule, we must sometimes adjust our sailing schedule to accommodate planned maintenance,” Carnival said in a statement. “Affected guests and their travel advisors were informed of this change several weeks ago, and we assisted in finding other sailing options. We appreciate their understanding.”

The impacted cruises were scheduled to depart on Jan. 11, 2027; March 5, 2027; March 13, 2027; March 18, 2027; and March 22, 2027.

The Carnival Breeze features a 320-foot Twister Waterslide, family activities, and dining favorites including Guy’s Burger Joint, Cucina del Capitano, Bonsai Sushi, and BlueIguana Cantina. The ship also features adult-only relaxation at Serenity Retreat, spa treatments at Cloud 9 Spa, and nighttime entertainment from Playlist Productions to Liquid Nightclub.

Cruise industry and Port of Galveston outlook

The Port of Galveston is in the midst of a major growth phase, with officials updating their Strategic Master Plan to guide the next 20 years. Since the plan was first adopted in 2019, the port’s revenue has nearly doubled — from $43.5 million in 2018 to $79.3 million in 2024 — while delivering key projects ahead of schedule. These include opening two new cruise terminals, expanding cargo operations, and investing in infrastructure that has boosted jobs and regional economic growth.

Already the fourth busiest cruise port in the United States, Galveston is poised for even greater expansion. Forecasts show passenger movements could grow from 3.7 million in 2025 to more than 9 million by 2045. Plans to meet that demand include building additional cruise terminals, onsite parking garages, improved roadways, and other supporting infrastructure.

The master plan update also envisions new mixed-use development along Harborside Drive and a revitalized Pier 10–16 area, with the Battleship Texas as a centerpiece surrounded by a hotel, park space, retail, and pedestrian walkways. Port officials are seeking community input on the plan, with a public open house scheduled for Aug. 13 at Cruise Terminal 28.
