Five men recording rap video arrested after leading police on a chase, drugs and money seized

All five men are facing nearly 30 charges all together.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas — Universal City police said five men recording a rap video inside an abandoned apartment eventually led them on a foot chase.

Patrol Lieutenant Stephen Rios said some of the men have gang affiliations. He said they had cash, drugs, and guns to use for the music shoot. KENS 5 obtained body camera video of the brief chase that happened right behind an apartment off FM 78 near Randolph Air Force Base on April 28.

Rios said someone called police for suspicious activity. He said as soon as officers arrived they noticed a few things.

“There were some narcotics and weapons in plain view,” he said. “They were making a rap video.”

In the body camera video, you see an officer running with his gun through a grassy area next to the highway. At one point, you see the officer spot one man about to jump a fence. He yells at the suspect to get on the ground. The 19-year-old, in the video, tells the officer they were just shooting a music video.

Universal City police said of the several guns they found, one came back stolen. Rios said they believe other may be stolen too.

“They go burglarize vehicles,” Rios said. “They find weapons in the car, and then you got some teenage thugs out there armed.”

Rios said the drugs, like cocaine, marijuana and cash were also found.

“The money, the guns, the drugs were all part of the props for the rap video,” he said.

Rios says up to 12 officers helped including from Live Oak Police. He said in total five men were arrested.

“Nobody got hurt, “Rios said. “I think overall they did a fantastic job.”

Rios said they are seeing an increase with young adults and these types of crimes.

“These guys think it is cool,” he said. “A lot of these guys we are encountering they are armed and involved in drug activity.” It is kind of popularized and people think it is cool. “It it not cool, and eventually it is going to catch up to you.”
