SAN ANTONIO — Five people safely escaped a house fire early Monday morning in northwest San Antonio, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to a home in the 7100 block of Malvern around 1:48 a.m. for reports of a fire. Battalion officials said crews arrived to find a chimney fire that had spread into the attic.
Firefighters said the layout of the home made it more challenging to reach the fire, but crews were able to knock it down before it spread further.
No injuries were reported. All five residents were able to get out of the house safely.
Officials estimate about 40% of the home was damaged by the fire.
This is a developing story.
