Five things to watch: Spurs face Suns in return to action after the All-Star break

Phoenix is 2-0 this season against San Antonio. Can the Silver & Black rebound against them?

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs (38-16) will host the Phoenix Suns (32-23) in Austin to resume the 2026 Rodeo Trip following NBA All-Star Weekend festivities.

The Spurs are 0-2 against the Suns this season after a pair of November losses. But San Antonio (38-16) has momentum on their side, having finished pre-All-Star-break action on a six-game winning streak that has them firmly in the Western Conference’s No. 2 spot.

Meanwhile, the Suns (32-23) have been wobbly in February. They sport a 4-2 record so far this month.

Here’s what to know ahead of the first of two I-35 Series games at Austin’s Moody Center.

GAME REWIND

The Spurs beat the Golden State Warriors, 126-113, on the road in their last game before the All-Star break on Feb. 11. De’Aaron Fox led the team with 27 points, while Victor Wembanyama tallied 26 and nine rebounds.

Keldon Johnson finished with 21 points and six rebounds while Harrison Barnes added 10 points. Devin Vassell scored eight points, and Stephon Castle had eight points and four rebounds.

Dylan Harper had 14 points in 29 minutes; Carter Bryant had eight.

“The whole time I was thinking that like, ‘I need to make the effort right now, because we got a few days of rest after,’ and we would have greatly regretted it if we broke our winning streak tonight,” Wembanyama said after last week’s game.

New acquisition Mason Plumlee will also sit out Thursday due to “reconditioning” as the Spurs ensure he’s ready to hit the hardwood.

Phoenix will be without the services of Dillon Brooks, their second-highest scorer, as he serves a one-day suspension after receiving his 16th technical foul of the campaign last week, according to the Associated Press. Brooks is averaging 21.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists so far this year.

The Suns have also ruled Haywood Highsmith (knee) and Cole Anthony out. Third-leading scorer Grayson Allen (ankle) is questionable.
