Five things to watch when De’Aaron Fox makes his Spurs debut in Atlanta

De’Aaron Fox will don the Silver & Black for the first time as the Spurs look to pick up their first win on the Rodeo Road Trip.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs (21-26) will visit the Atlanta Hawks (23-27) Wednesday’s for the team’s second game on the 2025 Rodeo Road Trip, and will be joined for the first time by De’Aaron Fox since the 27-year-old All-Star point guard was acquired from the Sacramento Kings.

San Antonio is 1-0 versus the Hawks this season and looking to reverse a losing trend, having lost 10 of their last 13. Entering play on Wednesday, the Spurs are 12th in the Western Conference standings and three games out of the Play-In Tournament picture.

GAME REWIND

The Spurs are coming off a 128-109 loss to the Grizzlies to start the extended road trip.

Victor Wembanyama finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Keldon Johnson finished with seven points and two rebounds. Harrison Barnes had four points, while Chris Paul chipped in three points and eight assists.

Devin Vassell recorded 11 points and three rebounds, and Jeremy Sochan added 14 and eight rebounds. Rookie Stephon Castle had 21 points. Julian Champagnie recorded five points.

Head coach Gregg Popovich remains out as he recovers from the stroke he suffered in November, with assistant coach Mitch Johnson continuing to assume head coaching duties for the game.

“Our attention to detail on defense, I feel like against (Memphis), has to be heightened a lot more because it’s how much they like to play in transition. But I feel like our turnovers on offense was kind of hurting our defense, a little bit,” Castle said postgame. “Our half-court defense… it was pretty solid, but they got out of a lot of transition, buckets, easier buckets that kind of opened the lead up. So if we can help our defense by limiting our turnovers, I think we’ll be all right.”
