Flavor Flav, who has long been a supporter of U.S. athletes, offered to host the team for a celebration after they turned down an invitation to the White House.
WASHINGTON — Rapper Flavor Flav knows how to get people excited, and he’s pulling out all the stops by personally inviting the U.S. women’s hockey team to celebrate their gold medal win in Las Vegas.
The hype man and founding member of Public Enemy, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., has long supported U.S. athletes.
Flav extended the offer to host the Olympic champions after they turned down an invitation to the White House for President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday evening.
The team cited scheduling conflicts as their primary reason for not attending.
However, video footage circulating online from the locker room of the U.S. men’s hockey team after their gold medal victory has raised eyebrows.
In one clip, several players on the men’s team are heard laughing at a remark made by President Donald Trump while he was calling the men’s team to congratulate them on the win.
The president jokingly said on the call that he’d be impeached if he didn’t also extend the invitation to the women’s team, suggesting the invitation was more out of obligation than personal interest.
Shortly thereafter after the team declined the trip to the White House, Flavor Flav shared his own special invitation to host a celebration on his social media accounts.
“If the USA Women’s Hockey team wants a real celebration and invite ,,, I’ll host them in Las Vegas. Do some nice dinners and shows and good times. I’m sure I can get a hotel and airline to help me out here and celebrate these women for real for real,” he said.
Multiple brand accounts flooded the comment sections in support of the offer and pledging their own services, including Palms and Alaska Airlines, which posted a comment, “Let’s chat”
Palms Casino Resort also replied in a comment, saying “Palms is IN.”
“Over-the-top suites, check. Next-level dining, check. Iconic rooftop views, check. A celebration worthy of champions, check. Only thing we don’t have? The gold medal,” the resort posted. “Bring the gold. We’ll bring the party. See you in Vegas.”
“We saw the story about the men’s invite to the White House, and the not quite invite for the women’s team,” part of the statement read. “(Flav) always stands behind everything he says and does. If there is an interest for the team to come to Las Vegas and celebrate with Flav – we will figure it out on our end and make it a lovely experience.”
Flav is an official sponsor of the U.S. bobsled and skeleton teams in the 2026 Winter Games, and he has been a supporter of the water polo teams during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
