Flood Watch in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for South and Central Texas | Weather Impact Alert

SAN ANTONIO — IMPACT DAYS: Sunday, July 6

Reason: Potential for locally heavy downpours, especially in the Hill Country and counties west of San Antonio.

The breakdown

Isolated showers continue to develop across portions of the Hill Country on Sunday, with moderate to brief heavy rainfall occurring with some of these showers. Shower activity may increase through the remainder of the overnight hours across this region. 

A Flood Warning is in effect until Monday at noon for parts of Kerr County, including the town of Ingram, which was just hit hard with the deadly flooding on July Fourth. See details below:

A Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. for portions of the the Hill Country and east of the I-35 corridor, with a Flash Flood Warning for Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties in effect until 11:30 p.m.

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches with isolated 10 inches is also possible.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. If you’re near a river where a Flash Flood Warning is in effect, get to higher ground immediately.

Friday’s deadly and catastrophic flooding situation unfolded in the dark, early morning hours as people were asleep in homes, RVs and campsites along the Guadalupe River. The river rose more 26 feet between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. Nearly 70 people have were killed in these floods. 

The flooding at Guadalupe River at Hunt reached the 2nd highest height on record, higher than the 1987 flood. “This is a very dangerous and life-threatening flood event along the river,” according to NWS.
