LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. — UPDATE (2/4): A Florence woman was arrested on February 4 on charges of animal cruelty after an investigation led to the seizure of 82 dogs.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office issued warrants for 71-year-old Teresa Gaye Counce after investigators found probable cause that animal cruelty had occurred.
Counce was arrested on 82 counts of cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor offense, and was released from the Lauderdale County Jail after posting a $41,000 bond.

According to Lauderdale County Sheriff Joe Hamilton, the case still under investigation, with charges pending. In an email statement, Hamilton said that investigators with the Sheriff’s Office accompanied Animal Control to an address on County Rd. 6 in the Central Community to follow up on an animal welfare concern.
Investigators executed a search warrant and recovered 82 dogs from a shed on the property. All dogs have been taken to the Animal Shelter where they will be evaluated.
