San Antonio International Airport expects smooth operations for 137,000 holiday travelers, despite recent FAA disruptions; officials advise checking flight statuses.
SAN ANTONIO — Heading to the airport for the holidays? Officials with the San Antonio International Airport said it should be a smooth flight.
SAT said they are expecting 137,000 travelers coming in and out of the Alamo City between Tuesday and Monday, Dec. 1. Their busiest travel days will be the Wednesday before and the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
Officials said they do not expect any disruptions to their daily operations but they continue to ask all travelers to check with their airlines before heading to the airport to ensure their flights are not delayed or cancelled.
SAT remains optimistic about the influx of travelers especially after their operations continued to run mostly smooth despite the strain from the ongoing government shutdown a few weeks ago.
During the shutdown, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was forced to reduce flights, but San Antonio wasn’t one of the 40 airports directly affected though some local travelers could still feel the ripple effects.
San Antonio avoided most major disruptions with most flights taking off on time, though there were a couple cancellations to other Texas airports in Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston. The FAA lifted the air traffic cuts on Nov. 16.
And many people will actually be traveling on the roads during the holidays, prompting experts to offer helpful tips like planning ahead, preparing for the unexpected, packing an emergency kit and avoiding districted driving.
