Former Astros closer Billy Wagner makes it into Hall of Fame on final year to be on ballot

HOUSTON — One of the most dominant closers in Astros history is now headed to Cooperstown.

On his 10th and final year to be on the ballot, Billy Wagner was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers Association of American Tuesday.

Wagner, 53,  joined the Astros in 1995 and played in Houston for nine seasons before moving on to the Phillies, Mets, Red Sox and Braves in a career that spanned 16 years. He got in by being on 82.5% of the ballots.

Over his now-Hall-of-Fame career, Wagner had an ERA of 2.31 and 422 saves. He had 1,196 strikeouts.

Wagner is part of the Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2025 alongside Ichiro Suzuki and CC Sabathia.
