Former Comfort High School teacher sentenced to 4 years in prison for improper relationships with students, officials say

39-year-old Tye Rexrode faces four years in prison for having an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student. This will be followed by 10 years of probation.

COMFORT, Texas — A former high school teacher will now be facing four years in prison after having an inappropriate relationship with a student, officials say.

39-year-old Tye Rexrode is a former teacher and coach at Comfort High School. It was there that after investigations officials were told that he was engaging in improper sexual relationships with multiple underage female students.

On Feb 1, 2024, an anonymous report to the high school’s administration alleged that Rexrode was in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. A Kendall County deputy then started investigating him.

During the months-long investigation, it was revealed that Rexrode and the girl had been having this relationship for several months. This included multiple sexual encounters at hotels in Kerr County.

Because this student was 17, the age of consent in Texas, Rexrode could only be charged with improper teacher/student relationship.

The investigation also revealed that Rexrode had inappropriate contact with multiple other minors at the school. Officials say he used social media platforms to communicate with the students, sending them “sexually explicit messages and making improper advances.”

The messages included talking about age of consent laws and offers to share inappropriate photos of himself, officials say.

In March of 2024, Rexrode was arrested and charged with multiple counts of improper relationship between an educator and student.

On Friday, after a plea agreement, Rexrode was sentenced to four years in prison for one charge followed by 10 years of probation for a second charge, both to be served concurrently.

As part of his plea agreement, Rexrode cannot contact any of the students he engaged with or be around teenage girls or places they frequent.
