Former Guadalupe County deputy among four charged after parking lot brawl, officials say

Manuel Hernandez, then a deputy with Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, has been charged with disorderly conduct involving fighting.

GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — Four people, including two licensed peace officers, have been charged after a Guadalupe County parking lot fight in early November.

On Nov. 3, deputies were called to the parking lot of the Backwoods Icehouse located at 3301 Dreibrodt Road for people fighting.

Once there, deputies were able to identify Alberto Trujano Jr., Juan Herrera and Sheriden Murray as people allegedly involved in the fight. Manuel Hernandez was also involved, according to officials, but fled before deputies arrived.

At the scene, Trujano was arrested for an outstanding parole violation warrant and charged with disorderly conduct involving fighting.

Herrera was taken to a hospital in Kyle.

Due to the fact that Murray and Herrnandez were licensed peace officers, a joint investigation was initiated by several agencies.

After investigation, it was determined that criminal charges were warranted.

On Wednesday and Thursday, arrest warrants were obtained for Herrera, Murray and Hernandez.

Hernandez, a deputy with Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, has been charged with disorderly conduct involving fighting and was arrested Wednesday. He was placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation but has since been let go due to his arrest.

“Our personnel will be held to the highest possible standards of conduct and accountability,” Sheriff Joshua Ray said. “I will not tolerate any form of unbecoming or criminal behavior from a law enforcement officer—of any agency—and especially from within my own ranks. This conduct has absolutely no place in our profession. The public deserves better, and I insist on it. The moment I was notified of this incident, my command staff moved quickly and decisively to investigate and take the appropriate action without hesitation.”

Murray is a former deputy with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office but is currently working for the Blanco County Constable Precinct 1. He has been charged with unlawful restraint but has not been arrested yet at the time of the news release.

Herrera is being charged with disorderly conduct involving fighting. He has also not been arrested yet.

This investigation remains ongoing.
