Former Longhorn Andrew Mukuba picked by Philadelphia Eagles in second round of 2025 NFL Draft

Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Austin, Mukuba joined the Longhorns in 2024 after spending his first three collegiate seasons at Clemson.

AUSTIN, Texas — A former Longhorn defensive back will soon be playing with the defending Super Bowl champions.

Safety Andrew Mukuba is heading to Philadelphia, after being taken 64th overall by the Eagles with the final pick of the second round in the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday.

Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Austin, Mukuba joined the Longhorns in 2024 after spending his first three collegiate seasons at Clemson, providing a veteran presence in the defensive backfield.

As it turned out, joining the Longhorns was an excellent move for the senior, as he finished the season with five interceptions and 69 total tackles, both career highs.

Mukuba is noted for his athleticism, with good length and twitch. His interceptions are a byproduct of his effectiveness while in zone defense, and he has shown an ability to make plays after forcing turnovers.

The biggest negatives against Mukuba are his size and frame, both of which are lean for a safety. Because of this, it is possible he could be utilized more as a nickel cornerback at the NFL level.

Mukuba will now join an Eagles team that boasts not only one of the best secondary units in the NFL, but arguably one of the league’s best defenses as a whole. In the secondary, he will play alongside second-year stars Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, and will likely begin as a reserve player and special teams contributor early on in his career.
