Former Windcrest police officer under investigation for sexual assault, charged with tampering with evidence

Sean Sonnen-Cortez,23, was arrested December 16 for tampering with evidence but arrest documents reveal more.

WINDCREST, Texas — A former Windcrest police officer arrested on a tampering with evidence charge is also being investigated for sexual assault.

It’s alleged in an affidavit that 23-year-old Sean Sonnen-Cortez found narcotics on the woman he arrested on May 17, 2023 and then poured out a portion of what was recovered.

Sonnen-Cortez allegedly told her quote, “I could get in trouble for that,” and “I took a big risk.”

The woman claims Sonnen-Cortez had her perform oral sex on him in the restroom while she was in custody at a holding facility.

The affidavit goes on to say the 23-year-old had requested the woman’s phone number on scene and that after her arrest the then officer contacted her via Facebook and Instagram, trying to get her to meet up with him.

On January 17, a warrant was issued to search Sonnen-Cortez’s phone and tablet and the affidavit states he was told not mess with anything on these devices.

While looking into these devices the investigators allegedly found a history of searches on Safari looking up “how to delete Facebook accounts.”

Investigators also allege the Facebook messenger app was uninstalled after Sonnen-Cortez was told not to delete anything from his device.

Records show he was on the force less than a year, being let go in March of 2024.

The affidavit also shows the former officer had communication with the woman.

This sexual assault allegation is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
