Fort Worth Fire Captain dies at 50 after accidental fall off-duty, department says

The community is mourning Captain Daniel “Danny” Cearley, a 28-year veteran of FWFD, who died after a tragic fall while off-duty.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Fire Department (FWFD) is mourning the loss of Captain Daniel “Danny” Cearley, who died while off duty.

The family confirmed to the department that the 50-year-old died following “a tragic accidental fall.”

Cearley served the City of Fort Worth for 28 years, where he was recognized as both an exemplary firefighter and a respected leader. In addition to his role in the fire service, FWFD said he served as the department’s special events coordinator, dedicating countless hours behind the scenes to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during city events.

“Captain Cearley’s legacy with the Fort Worth Fire Department will not soon be forgotten,” the department said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”
