Found weak and alone during 4th of July flooding, Molly is ready for a home | Forgotten Friends

Rescued weak and alone during deadly flooding last July, Molly has spent nine months healing — now she’s ready to give all that love to a forever family.

KERRVILLE, Texas — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

Molly has already survived more than most dogs ever should.

The 2-year-old shepherd mix was found alone during the deadly Kerrville flooding last July — weak, emaciated and fighting to survive.

But her story didn’t end there.

Kerrville Pets Alive! stepped in, covering her medical care and placing her in a foster home where she’s spent the last nine months healing, learning to trust and becoming the sweet, playful dog she was always meant to be.

Now, Molly is ready for her forever home.

At about 35 pounds, she’s described as well-behaved, eager to please and incredibly loyal. Her foster says she picked up commands like “sit” right away and just wants to stay close to her person, often following them from room to room and settling nearby.

She loves toys, treats and playtime, especially with other dogs. In fact, her foster calls her one of the best pups they’ve ever had.

“She just wants to be near you,” her foster shared. “She’ll sit on the bed, close but not on top of you, she just wants to be part of your world.”

Molly is crate-trained, walks on a leash and does well with kids. She rarely barks, doesn’t chew or dig, and happily settles in at night.

Like many survivors, she comes with a small challenge.

Molly will need lifelong dietary medication, estimated at about $100 a month, but Kerrville Pets Alive! is offering to cover her first six months to help her transition into a new home.

And honestly, for everything she’s been through, she’s not asking for much.

Just patience. A little love. And someone who won’t leave her behind again.

After surviving the flood alone, Molly is ready for something new, a home where she never has to be scared again.

If you would like to add Molly to your family, contact Kerrville Pets Alive! at info@kerrvillepetsalive.org. Her adoption fee will be taken care of by KPA! And remember, the first six months of her dietary supplement will also be taken care of by KPA for the first six months at her new home.

Kerrville Pets Alive is an all-volunteer animal welfare charity serving Kerr County. You can check out their adoptable pets on Petfinder or visit their adoption events every first and third Saturday between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., at 2102 Memorial Blvd. in Kerrville.

For whoever adopts Molly, Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free “Glow Up” Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy’s most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!

  • These two other Forgotten Friends from Kerrville are still available for adoption as well.

Remember when you adopt a shelter pet, you save two lives… the one you bring home with you and the one that now will be saved because the shelter has more room.
