HOUSTON — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department on Friday resumed re-stocking 18 neighborhood lakes across the state with catfish, including four in the Houston area.
TPWD said the stocking program “provides friends and family with the opportunity to reel in catfish close to home and participate in the Texas tradition of outdoor recreation.”
The department is restocking 18 lakes: Five in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, four in the Houston area, two in both the Austin and San Antonio areas, and one each in the Amarillo, College Station, San Angelo, Waco, and Wichita Falls areas.
“Catfish are fun and easy to catch for anglers of all ages and experience levels. If you’ve never fished before, these are the perfect places to get started,” said TPWD Inland Fisheries Division Three Director Marcos DeJesus. “If you’re an experienced angler, these are the perfect places to introduce fishing to a friend or family member.”
TPWD said each lake in the program will get catfish every two weeks through the end of October.
Fishers can keep up to five fish of any kind per day. If you’re under 17, you do not need a fishing license. Adults fishing the neighborhood lakes are required to have a license. A one-day license costs as little as $11 and an annual freshwater license goes for $30, TPWD said.
