A man was shot by a homeowner after forcing his way into a Houston home, just moments after desperately begging for help at another home, according to HPD.
HOUSTON — Ring doorbell video obtained by KHOU 11 shows a bloodied man desperately begging for help moments before he was shot after forcing his way into a nearby southwest Houston home.
Houston police said the shooting happened just after midnight along Ingomar Way, near Beltway 8.
The video captures the man repeatedly banging on a neighbor’s door and pleading for help.
“Help me, please! Help me, please! Call 911, please!” the man can be heard saying.
Neighbors said they heard loud, frantic knocking, but did not open the door.
“He’s asking for help, he’s asking for us to let him in — but, you know, I have my kid, my dog — like, we’re not going to do that — we’ll call 911, you know?” neighbor Melissa Molina said.
Investigators said a second man, possibly a relative, can be seen and heard in the video, appearing to confront the man. At one point, the injured man says he had been hit in the head.
The footage later shows both men running away.
According to police, the injured man then went to another nearby home, where he forced his way inside after kicking in the door.
“The resident saw him at the door — at that point, he kicked the door in, forced his way in — at which time the homeowner shot him multiple times,” said HPD Lt. J.P. Horelica.
The man was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
Police said the second man ran off and has not been identified. No charges have been filed at this time.
Neighbors described the situation as unsettling but said they understood why the homeowner acted.
“You never know if that was a tactic to break in, and, you know, rob him. ” Molina said.
Police are asking anyone with information or surveillance video from the area to contact HPD as the investigation continues.
