Free landfill day makes awaited return for San Antonio residents

On Saturday, February 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., three local landfill locations will help dispose of those undesirable bulky items that were probably just chilling in your garage or backyard, according to a news release.

Free Landfill Day locations in San Antonio:

•    Republic Services Landfill: 7000 IH 10 E., San Antonio, TX 78219
•    Waste Management Landfill: 8611 Covel Road, San Antonio, TX 78252
•    Texas Disposal Systems: 11601 Starcrest Road, San Antonio, TX 78247

Customers must bring a valid picture ID and a copy of their most recent CPS Energy bill showing payment of the city’s environmental fee, according to the release. All loads also must be covered with a tarp and locals are highly encouraged to wear a safety vest.

In order to cut out any confusion before the event, SWMD listed both accepted and unacceptable materials San Antonians can bring.

Accepted Materials:

•    Household bulky items like appliances, furniture, and mattresses
•    Carpet, fencing material, water heaters, and toilets
•    Tires, with a limit six passenger vehicle tires per household

Unacceptable Materials:

•    Roofing material, sheet rock, dirt, brick, brush, lumber, or construction materials
•    Industrial or commercial waste

Lastly, SWMD reminds locals the city reserves the right to divert any loads to any other sites in the event of operational constraints. The department is also not responsible for damages to vehicles or injury to any attendees of the event. SWMD operates four bulky item drop-off centers that are free to dispose of solid waste that are open year-round, Tuesday through Saturday.
