San Antonio residents can pick up a free plant and learn how to create water-efficient yards at the SAWS Spring Bloom event this weekend.
SAN ANTONIO — Spring is around the corner, and San Antonio residents can celebrate the season while picking up gardening tips and a free plant at an upcoming community event.
San Antonio Water System will host its annual Spring Bloom event on Saturday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to noon outside its headquarters at San Antonio Water System Headquarters located at 2800 U.S. Hwy 281 N. (at Mulberry Ave).
The free, family-friendly event will feature gardening experts who can help residents learn how to transform their yards into more water-efficient landscapes.
The first 1,000 adult guests will also receive a free WaterSaver plant, with options including Gregg’s mistflower, Mexican oregano and several varieties of salvia.
Visitors can also learn about the 2026 WaterSaver Landscape Coupon, which will provide $125 in the spring and $150 in the fall to help residents invest in drought-friendly landscaping.
Officials say the program encourages planting in the fall rather than the heat of summer, when plants have a harder time getting established.
Spring Bloom will also debut an updated Landscape Care Guide created by SAWS’ conservation team to help residents maintain healthy, water-smart yards throughout the year.
Organizers recommend allowing extra travel time due to spring break traffic and following signs for designated Spring Bloom parking.
