SAN ANTONIO — San Antonians know the summer months can get hot! But the City of San Antonio is expanding a program to fight the blazing heat.
San Antonio’s Cool Neighborhoods Program, which originally launched in 2024, is taking action with resources like cool roofs, cool pavement, more shade and trees – all in an effort to make the neighborhoods cooler. Click here to find out how these resources could impact the community.
They are also hosting free summer heat resource and information fairs in June. City officials said these fairs will provide residents with the tools and resources to keep their neighborhoods cool.
The fairs will include resource information, examples of cool pavements and roof technologies, free plant seeds, energy conservation kits, fresh produce boxes, activities for kids and paletas.
Below are the fair dates for June:
- Saturday, June 21 | 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
District 3 – Mission Marquee Plaza, 3100 Roosevelt Ave. - Tuesday, June 24 | 4 – 7 p.m.
District 2 – Second Baptist Church, 3310 E Commerce St. - Thursday, June 26 | 4 – 7 p.m.
District 5 – El Progreso Hall, 1306 Guadalupe St
The city is also currently seeking households who are willing the participate in the Cool Neighborhood Program. Participants would need to attend meetings, stay informed and share information and resources with the community, or they can sign up to receive one of the available cooling solutions.
